Abstract
1482522 Facsimile CROSFIELD ELECTRONICS Ltd 19 Sept 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 45989/73 Heading H4F A facsimile exposing scanner includes a row of light sources 8, Fig. 1, illuminating side-byside areas of a record medium 4 and includes control signal generating means connected to receive a common image representing signal and controlling discretely the intensities of light from the sources at the surface of medium 4. The light forms a strip spanning a single scan line on the record medium, so that half tone image dots may be formed during the scanning motion. The light emitting diodes 8 are operable at a plurality of discrete energy levels allowing an intensity profile, across a dot, of the form shown in Fig. 3(c). This is achieved by the inclusion of at least one gradation circuit 13 having an input/output characteristic of the form shown in Fig. 4. A common image representing signal is compared for each diode 8 with a screen signal from a screen pattern generator 14. If the ratio between these signals exceeds a first predetermined value the diode is energized to a first low level. One or more graded versions of the common signal are also compared with the screen signal appropriate to the diode and if this ratio exceeds a second or subsequent predetermined value the diode is further energized to a second or subsequent higher level. In this manner the degree of etching control is improved.
