Abstract
1482452 Switchboards GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 27 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973 (3)] 42155/74 Heading H1N A switchboard is composed of a frame 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, Fig. 1, on which are mounted end-toend, panels 24, Fig. 2, of insulating material (e.g. glass fibre reinforced polyester), formed on one surface with ribs 28a, 28b that define channels 30 in which are located bus-bars 32, the ribs protruding past the bus-bars, the busbars being attached to the panels at spaced intervals, the other surface also having parallel ribs 38, 40 defining channels in which are disposed parts of line connectors 50, Fig. 4, and load connectors 60, Fig. 5, line connectors 50 extending through the panels to be physically and electrically attached at one end 50a to busbars 32, load connectors 60 extending through the panel to provide terminals for attachment to remote loads, the opposite ends of both being arranged for attachment to devices 49 supported by the frame via the panels, bus-bars and connectors. Suitably apertured shielding insulating sheets 41, 80 are attached to the outer edges of the ribs. Sheet 80 is apertured and the apertures plugged 80c, 84 where necessary to give access to mounting bolts 46. Power is brought to bus-bars 32 by transverse bus-bars 70. These are in sections, joined by scarph joints where they are also mechanically and electrically connected to bus-bars 32, through bolts 76 and brackets 72 welded to busbars 32. Elongate spacers 48 are mounted in channels 30 by grooves 48a which engage ridges 34 on ribs 28a, 28b. Bus-bars 32 are screwed to these spacers (Fig. 5) and are also attached to spacers 48 and panels 24 by bolts 46. Bolts 46 hold "line connectors" 50 in electrical and mechanical contact with the bus-bars. Load connectors 60 are led through aligned apertures in panels 24 spacers 48 and bus-bars 32. Insulation from the bus-bars is obtained by sleeves 62 located by flanges 62a trapped between spacer 48 and panel 24. Connectors 60 are located in the sleeves by U-shaped clips 67 having tags 67c pushed up from the base of the U to engage protuberances 62b and legs that engage in holes 60a in the connectors.
