Abstract

1482260 Flock-coated fabric GILMAN BROS CO 25 June 1976 26507/76 Heading B2E A flocked fabric comprises a porous fabric substrate having successive coatings thereon of (i) a gas-pervious collapsed foam, (ii) an adhesive in the form of closely-spaced dots, and (iii) flock fibres extending from the adhesive. The material may be made by applying acrylic emulsion foam to a woven or knitted fabric, drying by heat and collapsing the foam between squeeze rollers; screen-printing dots of self cross-linking acrylic emulsion adhesive on to the foam; applying the flock electrostatically to the unset adhesive whilst the substrate is tensioned; and heating the flocked fabric firstly by hot air and then by highfrequency electric field to dry the adhesive and cross-link the resin therein. The flock may be spun-dyed polyethylene terephthalate or polybutylene terephthalate having an antistatic or conductive coating.
