1481262 Bits for horses JAMES COTTERELL & SONS Ltd 28 May 1976 t4 March 1975] 9000/75 Heading AIM The mouth-piece of a bit for horses is pivotally connected to the cheek-piece by pins engaging aligned bores formed in the mouth- and cheek-pieces. As applied to a Pelham bit, blind bores 9 are formed in the cheekpiece and pivot pins 10 can be fully inserted into the bores, against the pressure of springs 11, to permit the assembly of the mouth-piece 1 with the cheek-piece. With a mouth-piece having transverse enlargements at each end, blind bores completely receiving the pivot pins may be formed therein, or a through bore may be provided and a single spring be interposed between the pivot pins. As modifications, a single pivot portion may be provided on the cheek-piece and be received between two bearing portions provided on the mouth-piece and the connection between-the pivot portion and one bearing may be formed by a spring- pressed pivot pin, the other pivot being prow vided by a peg-and-hole connection.
