Abstract

1481084 Indicators of imbalance of brake circuits AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 22 Sept 1975 [7 Oct 1974] 43324/74 Heading F2F A pressure differential indicator 21 indicates a pressure difference between the circuit pressures of a dual hydraulic braking system correponding to failure of either circuit while allowing relatively small movements, to avoid seizure of the operating piston of the indicator, without indication. The indicator comprises a stepped bore 36 housing a stepped piston having a large diameter part 37 and a smaller diameter part 38 acted on by pressure in rear and front brake circuits respectively generated by tandem master cylinder 11. In normal brake operation the piston is centred in a neutral position by pin 52 and springs 48 and 53 but may perform small movements about the central position in response to small fluctuations in pressure, limited by the contact of washers 55 and 54 with abutment 56 and the end of pin 52 remote from the piston respectively. If either brake circuit should fail, the resulting relatively-large pressure difference across the piston will create a sufficient force thereon to slide pin 52 through either of the washers 54 and 55 with the result that either of piston parts 37 or 38 will contact probe 46 to operate a warning light. The line from the indicator to the rear brakes 29, 31 incorporates a pressure reducing valve 28 which is bypassed via line 32 in the event of failure of the front brake circuit.
