Abstract
1480880 Interpenetrating polymer molecules BAUSCH & LOMB Inc 18 April 1975 [6 May 1974 8 April 1975] 16227/75 Headings C3P and C3T Structures formed from interpenetrating polymer molecules are formed by simultaneously forming (a) a hydrophilic cross-linked polymer from an acrylic ester or amide containing a hydrophilic group or N-vinyl pyrrolidone with a small amount of cross-linking agent and (b) a hydrophobic cross-linked polymer obtained by cross-linking one or more siloxane prepolymers, the polymers being chosen so that no interaction occurs, and simultaneously or subsequently shaping, e.g. into a contact lens. Preferred monomers are hydroxyalkyl acrylic esters. The polymerizations are effected using different mechanisms to prevent interaction of the molecules.
