1480710 Machine tool control SIEMENS AG 16 April 1975 [16 April 1974] 15761/75 Heading G3N A digital computer is programmed to cause a machine tool, e.g. a cutter or flame cutter, to follow a contour K with a predetermined offset #r. At a contour change, e.g. An, the computer calculates the intersections of the offset paths S' n-1 and S n ' to determine the intersection point at which the tool changes direction. When a straight contour section S n intersects a curved section S n+ 1 there are two possible intersection points A' n+1 and A" n+1 at distances d 1 and d 2 respectively from point A n+1 . The computer takes the intersection point having the least distance, i.e. d 1 , to control the tool.
