Abstract

1480525 Cleaning elevator guides WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 18 Nov 1974 [20 Nov 1973] 49745/74 Heading B8L In an elevator system including a car 12 and counterweight 26 movable along guide rails 40, 42, 44, 46 detachable devices 60, 62, 64, 66 are attached to the car and counterweight to simultaneously clean all the roller engaging surfaces of the guide rails as the car and counterweight are first moved therealong. Each guide rail has three roller engaging surfaces and each cleaning device includes a rotatable scraper disc- 160, 162, 164 rotatably mounted on an axis perpendicular to the associated surface to be cleaned but offset therefrom whereby upon movement along the rail, the disc will rotate through frictional contact therewith, each disc being adjustably spring biased against the rail. After the guide rail has been scraped, it is wiped and scoured in the presence of a cleaning fluid and this is effected either by removing the scraper discs from their support after the first run of the car, and running the car for a second time with disc pads replacing the scraper discs and supplied with a cleaning fluid from a container 150, or by providing within the cleaning devices two vertically spaced sets of discs, the upper set having the scraping action and the lower set comprising pads supplied with cleaning fluid.
