Abstract

1480144 Wound drainage appliances INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO 17 July 1974 [17 July 1973] 31652/74 Heading A5R A wound drainage appliance comprises a housing having substantially rigid side walls 18 between which extends a resilient diaphragm 24 positioned below a front wall 14 having an aperture 30 through which manual pressure can be applied to a pressure plate 26 overlying said diaphragm whereby the diaphragm can be displaced to a position adjacent the back wall 12 of the housing, the diaphragm on release of the manual pressure returning to its position adjacent the front wall and the resultant suction withdrawing fluid from the wound via a drainage tube (40) Fig. 1 (not shown) coupled to an inlet port of the housing. An outlet port 22 with a closure 50 may be provided for emptying the housing. Check valves may be provided at the inlet and outlet ports and straps 34 enable the appliance to be secured to the patient or to a support.
