Abstract
1479454 Sports rackets D TALBOT and E J ALLEN 9 July 1974 [12 July 1973] 33167/ 73 Heading A6D A sports racket with a tubular frame (20 Fig. 6, not shown) has a T-shaped throat-piece 2 to secure the shaft (24 Fig. 6, not shown) and the ends of the frame, the side arms of the T-piece having slotted projections 10, 12 that fit within the ends of the frame, a pin 22 passing diametrically through the frame at or near each end and being received within a slot in a projection to secure the frame and also to prevent it rotating relative to the throat. The sidearms preferably comprise outer sleeves 4, 6 and an integrally-formed pair of inner projections 10, 12 facing in each direction. The sleeves and projections are formed to provide spaces 16, 18 in which the ends of the frame are located and glued, and also to provide slots 14. The projections 10, 12 may extend beyond the ends of the sleeves 4, 6 or may terminate within them or there may be no sleeves. A central dividing web (28) may be present to form two separate slots (14 Fig. 5, not shown). Holes in the frame and the arms of the T-piece (not shown) become coincident on assembly to receive plastics grommets for stringing. The T-piece 2 may be made of a zinc alloy and the frame of an aluminium alloy. The frame preferably has an elliptical section. The shaft (24) may be steel.
