Abstract

1479177 Keyboard device for an electronic musical instrument ROLAND CORP 16 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973 5 Aug 1974] 44838/74 Heading G5J A keyboard device for an electronic piano is designed to respond to variations in touch on the key. A key frame 1, pivoted at 6, carries a hammer 11 which on depression of the key, pivots about a point 10 and hook 13 and is thrown in the direction "b" to strike sensor 27. Mechanical damping pad 28 is released on depression of the key so that the sensor, which may be capacitive, piezo-electric or mechanical, modulates the signal generated for the particular note struck, according to the strength of the blow delivered by hammer 11 (Fig. 8, not shown). In a second embodiment (Fig. 9, not shown). The sensor comprises a lever which is shifted from one contact to another so that the time taken for the switch to occur, as measured by the discharge of a capacitor, is a function of the force with which the key was struck. Whilst the key is depressed, damper switch 25 remains open (due to pressure from tip 26 of pack 12) so discharging a capacitor in an attenuation circuit (Figs. 7, 14, not shown), which has the effect of attenuating the volume of the note played. "Double beats" are prevented by lever 21 which prevents hammer 11 from returning to plate 24 before the key is released. Lateral movements of the key are prevented by baseplate 8.
