Abstract

1478969 Cryogenic containers SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 15 July 1974 [16 July 1973] 33776/73 Heading F4P A cryogenic container comprises a rigid outer wall 1 around a rigid foamed closed cell insulation layer 4 which defines a storage space completely filled by blocks 3 of rigid foamed opencell polymeric material, the cells of blocks 3 forming a plurality of small interconnected spaces for the stored liquid, and layer 4 being attached to the core formed by blocks 3 but not to wall 1. Gore modifications The core can be formed by blocks stacked so as to leave spaces between the blocks (Fig. 2, not shown), by a single open-cell foamed block or a plurality of such blocks, each with tubular channels therein (Fig. 3, not shown), or by circular or rectangular sectioned tubes arranged vertically or horizontally (Figs. 4 to 6, not shown).
