Abstract

1478128 Prop heads for supporting shuttering C EVANS & SONS Ltd 7 Oct 1974 [12 Oct 1973 19 Feb 1974] 47797/73 and 7501/74 Heading E1S A prop head for supporting floor, ceiling or roof shuttering on a scaffolding prop, comprises an upright pillar 1 adapted at its lower end to be connected to a scaffolding prop P, and having a detachable and thus interchangeable head plate 10 at its upper end, the head plate having a central flange for attaching to a slightly off-centre member of the pillar, a shuttering support member 14 slidably mounted on the pillar 1, and a wedge 20 for retaining the support member 14 in an operative position for carrying shuttering beams and panels during concrete casting, release of the wedge allowing the support member and shuttering to be lowered, leaving the concrete supported by the props through the head plates 10. The pillar 1 is of H-section, and either has its flanges cranked intermediate their ends, (Fig. 2, not shown), or has its web extended outwardly of the flanges over part of its length, (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown); in order to provide shoulders on the pillar for co-operation with the wedge. The pillar has a base plate 5 for securing to a top plate of the prop. The wedge has a central opening through which the pillar passes, and may be formed by a pair of spaced, interconnected tapered plates 21, or by a rectangular plate with the opening cut out and having tapered projections (Fig. 5, not shown); the opening has a narrower portion for engagement with the shoulders on the pillar, and a wider portion which clears the shoulders to allow lowering. The head plate 10 has a central depending flange for securing by screw or bolt to a U-shaped bracket fixed to the pillar, or to the web of the pillar.
