Abstract
The spark-ignition engine is run for a transition period of at least 20 hours, and the diesel engine for a transition period of at least 30 hours, with a fuel which contains, respectively, gasoline or diesel fuel and 2.6 to 16.1 mg-mol of a dicyclopentadienyl iron core per 100 kg of gasoline or diesel fuel. The dicyclopentadienyl iron core can be in the form of dicyclopentadienyl iron itself and/or a dicyclopentadienyl iron derivative soluble in gasoline or diesel fuel with a dicyclopentadienyl iron core, or a mixture of such derivatives. The fuel can also contain antioxidants and/or sludge dispersants.
