Abstract

1477693 Shearing AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 15 Oct 1975 [21 Oct 1974] 45489/74 Heading B3W Bar or tube stock 11 to be severed at a plane 14 is gripped by hydraulic chucks 16, 18 including split collets 17 and 22 close to the plane 14, a spike 25 on the collet 17 indenting the stock to define the plane of severance. End plates 23, 24 prevent axial movement of the chucks while a hydraulic ram 21 rotates the holder 19 of the chuck 18 to sever the stock at the plane 14. Alternatively, the stock is scored at plane 14 before being put in the chucks or a scoring tool is inserted between the chucks.
