Abstract
1477133 Refractories PLIBRICO CO Ltd 29 May 1974 [1 Oct 1973] 45818/73 Heading C3N A method of producing refractory products comprises mixing an aluminoxy or aluminosilicate refractory aggregate and orthophosphoric acid, causing or allowing the mixture soformed to be degassed, then adding a setting agent for the mixture, forming the mixture into the desired shape and causing or allowing the mixture to set. The aggregate may be alumina, bauxite or a thermally insulating expanded fireclay. Degassing generally takes 10-48 hours. The setting agent may be an alkaline earth metal oxide or alkaline earth metal silicate, e.g. periclase, magnesia or wollastonite. Spinels may also be used. The specific examples describe methods where the aggregate is a mixture of calcined bauxite, kyarite and calcined alumina (1); a mixture of alumina and calcined alumina (2); and a mixture of expanded fireclay grog, "Molochite" (Registered Trade Mark), ball clay and calcined bauxite (3) and the setting agent in all examples is magnesia.
