Abstract

1476689 Rotary positive-displacement fluidmachines TRW Inc 5 Aug 1974 [14 Aug 1973] 34344/74 Heading F1F In a double-acting slipper-vane pump suitable for a power steering system the profile of the inner circumferential surface, or "cam contour", 40 of the casing comprises a "decompression arc" 32 at the leading end of each "inlet arc" 31 and extending between a corresponding "tangent arc" 30 and an adjacent inlet port 28, the spacing of the vanes being such that at least one vane is in register with the tangent arc at all times. The decompression arcs are said to reduce cavitation and also noise due to turbulence created by each vane as it passes between the outlet ports 27 and the inlet ports. Preferably, each decompression arc subtends at the central axis an angle of 10 degrees Œ ¢ to 1 degree, the angles subtended by the other arcs and the ports being as shown. The ports 27, 28 are formed in a housing end-plate, matching ports being formed in an opposite end-plate, Fig. 4 (not shown).
