Abstract

147,628. Waitz, F. July 5, 1917, [Convention date]. Utilizing waste rubber.-In treating waste rubber fabrics, such as old cycle or motor tyres, to recover the rubber and textile materials separately, the fabric is cut into coarse fragments and treated with solvent under the influence of heat and pressure in closed drum, the fragments being kneaded or agitated mechanically in the solvent until the whole of the rubber has passed into solution. The rubber solution is then run off and distilled to obtain the rubber, and remaining fragments of textile material washed with fresh solvent, which may be used afterwards to treat the next charge.
