Abstract
1475861 Treatment of depression WARNER LAMBERT CO 19 March 1976 [21 March 1975] 11887/75 Heading A5B Anhydrous pharmaceutical compositions for use in the treatment of depression comprise a non-toxic, water-soluble salt of tryptophan e.g. its sodium or potassium salt or its hydrochloride, an effervescent couple and an anhydrous, water-soluble flavouring e.g. a lemon or peppermint flavouring. The effervescent couple may comprise at least one alkali metal carbonate and/or bicarbonate e.g. sodium bicarbonate, and at least one solid non-toxic organic acid e.g. citric, tartaric, malic, fumaric or adipic acid. The compositions may also contain at least one permitted food colouring and/or at least one natural and/or synthetic sweetening agent. The compositions may be in the form of a powder or granulate preferably packed into sachets, each of which contains a single dose, or in the form of tablets which may be individually packed which when dissolved in water gives a clear, sparkling and orally palatable solution.
