Abstract
1475321 Archimedean screw pumps SIGMUND PULSOMETER PUMPS Ltd 26 Feb 1975 [27 Feb 1974] 8932/74 Heading F1C An archimedean screw pump 5, Fig. 1, is made up of stages 5' each comprising a cylinder having one or more internal helicoidal vanes 9 and built up from plastics modules 30, Fig. 3, having a first portion 31 constituting part of the cylinder wall and a second portion 32 constituting part of the vane. A third portion (45), Fig. 5 (not shown), may depend from the inner edge of the second portion, its axial length being less than the distance between adjacent vanes to form part of a helical ribbon core coaxial with the cylinder. The modules are bonded together, the lower-end modules, which engage a member 58 are squared off by sawing off triangular pieces 33 which are inserted in triangular spaces at the upper end of the cylinder, a mandrel 52 carrying arms 62 maintaining alignment during the bonding process. A second end member (66), Fig. 6, (not shown), is added to the upper end of the cylinder, a glass fibre web then being bonded to the cylinder and end members. At the upper end of the pump a rigid lip 16 or a flexible annular flange is attached which engages an arcuate lip seal to prevent substantial backflow of liquid.
