Abstract

1474893 Horizontal press L BETTONICA 16 July 1975 29808/75 Heading B5A A horizontal press, particularly for the manufacture of tiles, plates, &c., comprises: a stationary fore platen 2, a stationary rear platen 3, and two horizontal parallel cylindrical guide columns (4, 5, Fig. 3, not shown); a first cross-member 6 slidable on said columns and carrying first punch means 7; a second crossmember 9 slidable on said guide rails in which is a hole defining a die, and in which is provided a vertical duct 8 through which material to be moulded may be fed into the die; second punch means 10 firmly attached to the stationary rear platen; and programmed memory control means for the press. In operation, punch 7 moves to the left until, with member 9 and punch 10, it defines a mould cavity; member 9 then moves to the right until duct 8 registers with the cavity, and material flows thereinto; punch 7 then moves further to the left to compress the material; member 9 then moves to the left so that the moulded article is supported solely between punches 7 and 10; and then punch 7 is retracted to allow removal of the moulded article.
