Abstract
1474215 Electrostatic precipitators VEREINIGTE ALUMINIUM WERKE AG and METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG 15 Aug 1974 [15 Sept 1974] 36039/74 Addition to 1341313 Heading B2J [Also in Divisions Cl and C7] Hydrogen fluoride is removed from a gas stream, e.g. the exhaust gases from the electrolytic production of aluminium using molten flux, by introduction of the stream of gas as the fluidising gas into a fluid bed reactor 2 containing a solid absorbent for the HF, e.g. alumina and/or sodium aluminate, so that the solids form an expanded fluid bed with a solids concentration which decreases upwardly in the bed and from which the HF absorbing solids are discharged upwardly and withdrawn through the suspension outlet 3 and fed to an electrostatic preciptator 4 to separate the solids which are collected in the bins 5. Optionally part of the separated solids can be recycled to the fluidised bed 2 through the conduit 9. The entrained solids may also be further separated in the precipitator into fractions differing in particle size wherein the precipitator is provided with a plurality of fields and dust collecting bins.
