Abstract

1472609 Closing sacks or bags DRG PACKAGING Ltd 17 Sept 1975 [18 Sept 1974] 40727/74 Heading B8C An apparatus for closing a filled bag or sack comprises two spaced clamps 12, 13 for gripping and tensioning an upper end portion of the bag or sack, an adhesive applicator for applying adhesive to the exterior of said upper end portion, torque units 15 for rotating the clamps 12, 13 to fold over said end portion, and an arrangement for stabilizing the bag or sack whilst the clamps are released to permit removal of the closed bag or sack. Respective piston and cylinder assemblies 14, 16 act to move one or both clamps 12, 13 laterally outwards to tension said upper end portion, and also to withdraw both clamps 12, 13 from the folded closure after unclamping. The torque units 15 rotate the clamps through 360 degrees. The apparatus may include a vertically movable bag or sack support positioned below the clamps and the stabilizing arrangement may comprise side plates or a top plate for clamping the bag or sack to the bag support. In an alternative arrangement the bag or sack is supported and stabilized by a chair.
