Abstract

1472572 Power steering systems BENDIBERICA SA 31 May 1974 [2 June 1973] 24315/74 Heading B7H A power steering mechanism includes a spindle 23 and shaft 39 which together form a control valve for the operating fluid. The spindle is connected to the shaft by a torsion bar 47 or tube (Fig. 10, not shown) and is formed internally with two sets of longitudinal grooves 59, 60 arranged alternately, each set including three grooves, the shaft being provided with similar sets of grooves 61, 62. Radial passages 63 connect grooves 61 to shaft bore 42 which is connected to the fluid inlet 57 by a passage 55 in the spindle. Grooves 62 are connected to outlet 46 by radial and axial bores 64, 41. The grooves 59 and 60 are respectively connected to pressure chambers 14 and 13. Above the grooves 61, 62 the shaft is provided with axial splines (65) (Fig. 8, not shown) which engage with clearance in grooves 60 to limit the relative rotation of the shaft and spindle. In one embodiment (Fig. 10, not shown) provision is made for hydraulically balancing the axial forces on the shaft.
