Abstract
1471525 Regulating IC engines LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 29 April 1974 [4 May 1973] 21446/73 Heading F1B [Also in Division G3] The quantity of fuel supplied to an engine is controlled, below a predetermined engine temperature, in accordance with the quantity of carbon monoxide or unburnt hydrocarbons sensed in the exhaust gases, and, above that temperature, in accordance with the quantity of oxygen sensed in the exhaust gases. The sensors produce electric signals whose amplitude represents the respective quantities and the appropriate one of these, according to engine temperature, is compared with a signal derived from the engine temperature representing the required air/fuel ratio. The comparator output controls the fuel flow, either by varying the duration of an injection pulse or by changing the speed of the pump in a continuously supplied fuel control system.
