1471506 Cable stripper R A G MOORHOUSE 18 July 1975 [21 April 1975] 16394/75 Heading H2C A cable stripper comprises a hollow rotatably driven shaft 12 journalled in a block 3, axially arranged open-ended slots 14 equally spaced about one end of the shaft, a spindle 15 pivotally mounted about one end within each slot, a ring gear 8 mounted to be axially adjustable within a block 2, frusto-conical spur gears 19 mounted on the free ends of spindles 15, a resilient ring 20 urging the ends of spindles 15 outwardly to maintain gears 19 in contact with ring 18 and an helical milling cutter 17 on each spindle 15 connected to and driven by a spur gear 19. In operation a cable comprising individually insulated conductors in an external sheath is passed through a bore 9 in the support 7 for ring gear 8 to bring the sheath into contact with the cutters 17 whereby the sheath is removed. The separation of cutters 17 can be adjusted by adjusting the axial position of ring gear 8 within its block 7. The individually insulated conductors then pass through hollow shaft 12 between blades 31 which are then brought together to cut the insulation to the required depth and draw-off the cut insulation as the cable is withdrawn. Blades 31 are mounted on pivoted arms 29, a wedge 32 operating e.g. hydraulically to bring the blades to a point of adjustable separation. The whole of the blade assembly is mounted on an axially adjustable plate 26. A blower or suction system may be provided to remove waste from gap 18 between blocks 2 and 3. The device may operate automatically or manually.
