Abstract

1470275 Measurement of the CO 2 content of a liquid HEINEKEN TECHNISCH BEHEER BV 2 April 1975 [4 April 1974] 13422/75 Heading G1B An apparatus for the determination of the CO 2 content of beer comprises an analyzer adapted to be connected in parallel with a beer circuit and which can be isolated from the circuit during each determination, the analyzer being provided with temperature and gas-pressure measuring means, means for correcting the measured gas-pressure for variation of the measured temperature from a given reference temperature, and means for transmitting a signal from said analyzer to a CO 2 contentrecorder or a CO 2 control apparatus, wherein said gas-pressure measuring means is a differential pressure gauge which in use measures the gas- pressure in the beer samples isolated in the analyzer and also receives a correction pressure signal from a temperature compensation transmitter forming said gas-pressure correcting means, so that said differential pressure gas can directly transmit a corrected signal to said CO 2 content recorder or control apparatus. An apparatus of the above type is shown in the accompanying Figure. In use, a sample of beer is isolated between valves 2 and 18. Piston 17 moves to the left so that a CO 2 atmosphere forms at the left of diaphragm 15, the pressure of this atmosphere being measured by differential pressure gauge 12. The beer analyzer 5 is provided with electrodes 6, which are activated so as to produce O 2 and H 2 gases in the liquid in the analyzer, the formation of these gases agitating the beer present in the analyzer so as to eliminate any CO 2 supersaturation in the beer. The output signal of the differential pressure gauge 12 depends on the CO 2 pressure in 16 and on the pressure to the right of diaphragm 15, the latter pressure being generated by transmitter 10 in response to a signal from the resistance thermometer 7. The displacement of the diaphragm 15 under the influence of the pressure in chamber 16 and the compensation pressure to the right hand side of said diaphragm is transformed by the pneumatic differential pressure gauge 12 to a pneumatic signal and transferred to the CO 2 content recorder 13 or a CO 2 dosing device.
