1470012 Ketone peroxide compositions CHINOOK CHEMICALS CORP Ltd 10 Sept 1974 [10 Sept 1973] 11714/76 Divided out of 1470011 Heading C2C An acyclic ketone peroxide composition having an active oxygen content of 0À1 to 13% and a flash point of at least 200‹ F. comprises a homogeneous solution of 10 to 95% of (a) an acyclic ketone peroxide derived from an acyclic ketone of the formula R-CO-R<SP>1</SP> where R and R<SP>1</SP> each are straight or branched chain alkyl groups, in which the total number of carbon atoms is from 3 to 6, in 90 to 5% of (b) a solvent system consisting of a mixture of solvents which boils smoothly over a range of at least 40‹ C., the boiling range commencing at a temperature of at least 175‹ C., has a flash point of at least 200‹ F., has an autoignition temperature of at least 225‹ C., has a low volatility and low toxicity, is a solvent for and inert to the ketone peroxide and is incapable of leaving a solid residue after burning, the individual solvents of the mixture being acyclic compounds which are non-benzenoid, non-halogenated and incapable of forming amine oxides, and containing from 2 to 8 acyclic carbon atoms, and have differing boiling points. Suitable components of the solvent mixture are C 2 -C 6 glycols and their derivatives (e.g. ethylene glycol acetate) and C 3 -C 6 trialkyl phosphates. The compositions may be prepared by reacting ketone with aqueous hydrogen peroxide in the solvent mixture in the presence of an acid resin, removing the latter and stripping off excess ketone and water; they are exemplified with methyl ethyl ketone peroxide. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,072,728.
