Abstract

1469641 Stabilizing dye images AGFAGEVAERT 7 Aug 1974 [20 Sept 1973] 44200/73 Heading G2C A process for producing stabilized dye images comprises (i) imagewise exposing to ultraviolet and/or visible light a material containing in one layer a photo-sensitive organic halogen compound and a dye precursor (e.g. a spiropyran or a styrylquinoline) to form a dye image and (ii) heating so that a stabilizing substance in an adjacent layer can react with the unexposed organic halogen to stabilize the dye image, the stabilizer being (a) triphenylamine, (b) a compound containing an ethylenically unsaturated group which is substituted by cyano, cyanomethyl, acyl, acyloxy, alkoxy- or aryloxy-carbonyl, carbomoyl or aryl or (c) diaryl, trionyl or trialkyl compounds of P, As, Sb or Bi. The stabilizing layer may be coated above or below the light-sensitive layer on the support. Preferred stabilizers are triphenyl-stibine or phosphine, tri-tolyl stibine, diphenyl selenide, tributyl phospic, triphenol prosphine, acrylonitrile, stibbine and chalcone. Preferably the binder for the light-sensitive layer is a N-vinyl carbazole homo- or co-polymer and the binder for the stabilizer layer is cellulose nitrate, ethyl cellulose or polyvinyl acetate or butyral and is coated over the light-sensitive layer in a non-solvent for the binder of the light-sensitive layer.
