Abstract

1468596 Valves ACF INDUSTRIES Inc 5 June 1974 [11 June 1973] 24820/74 Heading F2V A gate valve has an expansible ported gate 28 formed from interfitting members 34, 36 cooperating with seats 60, 62 having annular portions 68 slidable in recesses in the valve housing 12 and projections 72 floatingly connected to spacers 78 via pins 88. The spacers 78 have an axial dimension at least 0À005 inch greater than that of gate 28 in the collapsed condition to ensure adequate clearance between the latter and seats 60, 62. Gate members 34, 36 have complementary V-shaped surfaces 40, 38 urged to the collapsed condition by springs 56 but relatively slidable to expand the gate by wedging action when the latter moves upwards or downwards towards the fully open or closed positions respectively. Lubricant passages (70, 71, Figs. 2, 3, not shown) are provided in seats 60, 62 and housing 12. Gate 28 is controlled by a hand wheel 32, the spindle 30 of which has a lug 52 held in a recess 50 in gate projection 48 by nut 54.
