1468243 Electronic watches CITIZEN WATCH CO Ltd 12 July 1974 [20 July 1973 6 Oct 1973 18 Oct 1973 8 Nov 1973 (2) 22 Nov 1973 24 Dec 1973 9 March 1974 14 March 1974 22 March 1974 30 March 1974] 30966/74 Heading G3T [Also in Division H2] In an electronic timepiece with an electro-optical display segments of which are selectively energized by control circuitry, the connections between the circuitry and display are made by a flexible printed circuit 3 disposed between the display module and a planar substrate 1, contacts on areas 3a, b of the printed circuit being engaged with corresponding contacts 9g on the overlapping margins of a plate 9b of the display module. The latter is supported clear of the substrate by resilient cylindrical members 6a, b located beneath the edges of the printed circuit to ensure contact. As described the display is a liquid crystal display of a wrist watch and comprises glass plates 9b, h sandwiched between polarizing plates 9a, k and a reflecting plate 9m. The substrate has apertures or notches containing battery 27, I.C. chip 2, and a crystal oscillator (21) Fig. 3 (not shown) so that these components are not superimposed. A further printed circuit 12 secured to the rear of substrate 1 has a portion 12a pressed into contact with the battery by a spring 30, and a further portion which is backed by a resilient edge (1z) Fig. 9 (not shown) of the substrate and grounded when a push-button (37) is depressed. Pins (32) Fig. 8 (not shown) may pass through the substrate to connect the two printed circuits. The oscillator may be held by a screwed clip which also ensures connections thereto Fig. 10 (not shown). The printed circuits are preferably bonded to the substrate and may be overlaid by moisture-proofing films. Various ways of mounting the clip 2 on the substrate are described Figs. 12-14 (not shown).
