Abstract
1465636 Skin-contacting electrodes MEDICOR MUVEK 20 June 1974 [15 Oct 1973] 27360/74 Heading G1N [ Also in Divisions A5 and A6] An electrical detector for fixing to the skin for biometrical observations comprises a silver electrically conducting electrode 6 and a coherent porous body 4 of silver grains having cohesive bonds 2 between contacting silver surfaces of said grains and cohesive bonds 14 between contacting surfaces of said grains and said electrode surface; and a coating of silver chloride on the surfaces of substantially all of said grains other than said contacting surfaces. The electrode is a housing defining a cavity and the grains are compressed in the housing to substantially fill the cavity and to form cohesive bonds between said grains and the inner surface of the housing. A flange of electrode 6 is joined to a plastics annulus 7 which annulus forms a seat for a porous plastics foam disc 5. A closed cell plastics foam disc 8 is gripped between metallic bell 12 and annulus 7, The skin-contacting surface of disc 8 is coated with biologically-harmless non-water-soluble adhesive 9. Disc 5 is coated in a gel containing Cl<SP>-</SP> ions. Before use adhesive 9 is covered by a multi-layer paper 10 with a silicone lining 11. The detector is wrapped in a hermetically sealed multilayer bag containing saturated water vapour.
