Abstract

1465527 Vehicle electrical systems K AZUMA 27 Feb 1974 8977/74 Heading H2H The output of the generator of a motor vehicle is regulated according to the speed of the generator by short-circuiting a part of a resistor in series with the generator field winding by means of a triac. A generator 1 of a motor vehicle comprises a stator winding 2 and a field winding 4, the output of the stator winding being rectified by a bridge 3. At low generator speeds the field winding 4 is supplied from the vehicle battery 17 by way of the ignition switch 6, when closed and a triac 5. Under these conditions a transistor relay 8 is inoperative whereby a second triac 16 is non-conductive a small A.C. signal thus being applied to the gate of triac 5 through all the resistor 7 resulting in a low current in the field winding 4. Upon an increase in generator speed and the generated D.C. from the bridge 3 reaching a predetermined value, the transistor relay 8 becomes operative to provide a gating signal for the triac 16. Conduction of triac 16 short circuits part of the resistor 7 which causes the current in the field winding 4 to increase thus increasing the generated D.C.
