Abstract

1465368 Chain couplings A THIELE [trading as AUGUST THIELE] 13 March 1974 [27 Oct 1973] 11282/74 Heading F2Q [Also in Division B8] A chain coupler or hanger, for use in connecting the hook of a crane (not shown) to the end links 29, 31 of chains, comprises a hook link 1 having an eye 3 which receives the crane hook, a half link 16 being hingedly connected to the hook link 1 by means of knuckles 10, 11, 12 formed on the bottom part of the link 1 which co-operate with knuckles 21, 22, 23 formed on the limbs of the half link 16, a hinge pin 25 passing through all the said knuckles. Axially split sleeves 27, 28 surround the inner part 26 of the hinge pin 25. The thickness of the half link 16 is the same as the thickness of the sides 6 defining the eye 3, and the knuckles interfit within the width of the bottom part of the hook line 1. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) the hook link (1) is provided with two pairs of knuckles (11, 12), each pair co-operating with a respective single knuckle (23) formed on the half link (16). In the embodiment of Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), two half links (16) are mounted on the hook line (1). Fig. 9 (not shown) differs from the other embodiments in having only one wide knuckle (39) formed thereon which is embraced by two knuckles (36) formed on the half link (16). In the embodiments of Figs. 10, 12 and 14 respectively (not shown), the eye (3) is open at its lower end, a removable cross member (46) being provided in the embodiment of Fig. 12.
