Abstract

The wound packages are dyed with soluble dyes or precursors for the development of azo pigments or solubilised vat or sulphur dyes at temperatures of up to 135 DEG C by the exhaust method. For this they are heated and deaerated in a dyeing vessel before dyeing and then brought into contact with the total dyeing liquor, heated separately in a make-up vessel to about dyeing temperature and put under a relative overpressure of 2.9 to 9.8 bar, by transferring the dyeing liquor from the make-up vessel into the dyeing vessel. Thereafter the dyeing treatment is completed by circulating the dyeing liquor. Immediately prior to the transfer of the dyeing liquor the wound packages are subjected to a hot steam (vapour) atmosphere at about the dyeing temperature. The dyeing liquor is then passed into the wound package, simultaneously from the inside and the outside, against the pressure of the air-free hot steam atmosphere. The dyeing process produces uniform dyeings without harming the material.
