Abstract

1463972 Agitator mills AUGUST'S Ltd 2 April 1974 [19 May 1973] 23985/73 Heading B2A An agitator mill 10 Fig. 2 has a bowl 16 surrounded by an external cooling jacket comprising a first cavity 64 formed by a first surrounding plate 62, and surrounding the first cavity a second cavity 68 formed by a second plate 66. Cooling liquid, e.g. water flows from a sprinkler ring 70 into the open top of the cavity 64, through holes at the bottom into the second cavity 68 and then over and outwardly of the top edge of the second cavity which may be restricted. Any liquid retained in the cavities is discharged by spinning the bowl. Material is ground by rotation of the agitator 24. The bowl being held by a brake disc 58. A clutch 40 allows the bowl to spin in a reverse direction and discharge ground material via a sieve ring 20, into a collection trough 60. A handwheel 14 Fig. 3 controls a speed adjuster 56 adjusting the effective diameter of a pulley 44 and thus the speed ratio between a motor 42 and an auxiliary shaft 48 which in turn drives a pulley 30 for the main mill shaft. A tachometer 54 indicates mill speed.
