Abstract

1462664 Spray producers AIRLESS SPRAY TIP MFG CO 8 April 1974 [11 April 1973] 15441/74 Heading B2F A spray tip, supplied with pressurized liquid from a spray gun via a conduit 19, comrises a generally tubular adapter 10 having a longitudinal through passageway 12, the adapter being connected to the conduit by a flange 14 on the adapter, a cap 18 and a gasket 22, a resilient seal 15 being carried in a counterbore 16 in the end of the adapter, a generally tubular housing 20 partially surrounding and being secured to the adapter by interengaging threads and a locknut 29, the housing 20 having a central longitudinal bore 24. The housing 20 has a generally L-shaped slot having a leg 26 extending rearwardly and longitudinally from the open end of the housing, and a leg 28 extending generally circumferentially, a plug member 30 having a central bore 32 being received in bore 24 of the housing and bearing an abrasion-resistant apertured spray tip 36 at one end. The plug member 30 is retained in the housing by a pin 44 mounted near the middle of plug member 30 and slidable in the slot in the housing as in a bayonet joint, and in the fully inserted position sealingly engages the seal 15; the plug member 30 may be removed from the housing, inverted end-for-end, and re-inserted, in order to flush out any solid blockage from the spray tip 36. In the embodiment of Figure 2 (not shown) a resilient sealing member (69) is mounted in an end of a piston (65), the piston (65) being slidable within a bore in a generally tubular member (60) and being biased by a spring (63) to urge the sealing memer (69) against the inner face of a plug member (80). A pin (89) is transversely mounted in the plug member (80) to break up the spray discharge and prevent the sudden emission of a jet of liquid. The plug member (80) carries an apertured spray tip (86). The spray tips 36 and (86) each produce a fan-shaped spray, and the plug members 30 and (80) may each be interchanged for other plug members in order to vary the dimension or pattern of the spray.
