Abstract
1462371 Mining by jetting DOBSON PARK INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 8157/73 Heading E1F [Also in Division B2] Mineral is mined by making an incision in the mineral face using a high velocity liquid jet and then breaking away the mineral adjacent the incision using an impact device. The jet nozzle 23, which produces a high velocity cavitation liquid jet, can be used in combination with various mining machines, Figs. 1 to 3 (not shown). The nozzle is angularly adjustable by means of a ram 32, and movable towards and away from the face by means of a ram 25 controlled by a distance sensor 34a, 34b, or (34), Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). Low pressure liquid may be applied to the mineral face at the point of application of the jet, and the jet may be pulsated so as to induce shock waves in the mineral face. In use, the nozzle is surrounded by a cowl (not shown) which makes fluid-tight contact with the face. The nozzle proper (46), Fig. 9 (not shown), is formed of flexible resilient material so that, by means of screws (47) its effective size and shape can be adjusted, and is provided with an adjustable cavitation-inducing insert (43).
