Abstract
1460757 Rectifying BRAUN AG 18 March 1974 [22 March 1973] 32397/76 Divided out of 1460756 Heading H2F A circuit for supplying a D.C. consumer device from mains A.C. comprises a first capacitor 81, a second capacitor 82 connected in parallel with a diode 72 and connected across the mains supply by a thyristor 70, and a voltage sensor 3 which blocks the thyristor when the mains voltage exceeds a threshold value and switches on the thyristor to charge the second capacitor when the mains voltage does not exceed the threshold value, the second capacitor being connected so that its charge increases the voltage on the first capacitor. The consumer device is connected across output terminals V 1 , V 2 and when 220 volts A.C. is supplied to terminals N 1 , N 2 , a transistor 30 conducts to prevent triggering of the thyristor 70. The capacitor 81 is therefore charged with the rectified mains voltage. If 110 volts A.C. is supplied to the terminals N 1 , N 2 , the transistor does not conduct and the thyristor is triggered via a glow discharge tube 60. The voltage on the capacitor 82 is added to the mains voltage to supply a doubled voltage to the consumer device. In a modification, two such circuits are connected in parallel.
