1460173 Welding by fusion KOBE STEEL Ltd 26 March 1974 [26 March 1973 28 March 1973] 13315/74 Heading B3R [Also in Division G3] Automatic non-consumable electrode arc welding apparatus suitable for overhead TIG welding, includes a pair of welding electrodes 40 each fed with filler wire from a reel 83 by feed mechanisms 82. The wire feed rate is controlled in accordance with measurements of the voltage between each welding electrode and the associated filler wire, and the arc length is controlled by measuring and regulating the arc voltage. In addition each welding head includes housings b1, b2 containing weaving or oscillating mechanisms, Fig. 15 (not shown), an arrangement for ensuring that the welding electrode follows a desired path 84 using a photoelectric device 94 following a marked line 93 and a device for keeping the welding head a constant distance from the workpiece using a differential transformer 98 with a roller contacting the workpiece.
