Abstract

1459688 Time switches APPLIANCE COMPONENTS Ltd 12 May 1975 [7 June 1974] 25460/74 Heading H1N [Also in Division F2] Fine and coarse adjustments of an angularly adjustable cam assembly readily ensure precise circumferential positioning of a cam ring 20 on a drive shaft 1. The cam ring 20 is mounted on a sleeve 2 formed as a worm wheel and is circumferentially positioned thereon for fine adjustment by a worm screw 13 in the cam ring 20 engaging the worm wheel teeth of the sleeve 2, which sleeve 2 is a friction-fit on the drive shaft 1 whereby initial coarse angular adjustment of the cam ring 20 and sleeve 2 as a unit is readily effected simply by relatively forcibly turning the cam assembly on the shaft 1 i.e. overcoming the friction-fit to re-position the sleeve 2 on the shaft 1. The cam ring 20 and sleeve 2 are of thermoplastics and the shaft 1 of stainless steel. A number of such cam assemblies may be arranged as a multiple cam timer unit (Fig. 4, not shown) for a beverage vending machine or a gaming machine (not shown). The cam assemblies are mounted side-by-side on the cam shaft 1 which is journalled in end brackets (21) and is driven through a gear train in a housing 22 by an electric motor in a housing 23. The other end of the cam shaft carries a cam setting knob (24). A number of switches (25), one for each cam, are mounted between the end brackets (21). Each cam is shaped with a notch (26) and flats (27) for engagement by a holding key (28, Fig. 5, not shown) which can be slid downwardly on to the cam and is shaped to seat on the casing of the associated switch (25) whereby the cam assembly may be held stationary as the cam shaft is rotated by the cam setting knob (24) to effect the coarse adjustment of each cam assembly on the shaft 1, and when the approximate required angular setting is achieved the holding key (28) is removed from the particular cam assembly and the fine adjustment achieved by turning the worm screw 13.
