Abstract
1459290 Transformers USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 19 Dec 1974 [14 Jan 1974 23 July 1974] 54926/74 Heading HIT [Also in Division H2] A low balanced reactance delta closure for a three phase arc furnace transformer 18 comprises a pair of terminal risers 30 bolted to each of the secondary coil terminals 26. Welded to tubular phase collectors 36A, 36B, 36C and bolted to the risers are riser extensions 32A, 32B, 32C. A pair of hollow riser tubes 48A, 48B, 48C are welded to each collector and to a pair of phase conductors 50A, 60B, 50C which terminate at heads 56 where three pairs of flexible water cooled conductors take the current to the furnace. The hollow phase conductors and collectors are cooled by water inleted and outleted outside the transformer enclosure, the coolant circulating via apertures in the welded joints. The tubes, typically 6 inch square with ¢ inch thick copper walls, are supported by hangers 40 and may be internally divided and stiffened (Figs. 6, 8, 10, 11, 12 not shown).
