Abstract
1459247 Linear motors S BENOWITZ 4 Feb 1974 [5 Feb 1973] 05139/74 Heading H2A [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for moving conductive material comprises two rows of electrically excitable spaced magnetic poles each pole face being opposite a space in the other row, the two rows defining a gap between them. The poles are energized by a multi-phase A.C. supply to produce a travelling wave field in the gap e which transmits motion to articles 35. These articles may be non-ferrous components in refuse carried through the stator on a conveyer belt 13 (Fig. 1, not shown). The articles 35 are moved across the belt and deposited in containers at the sides. In a second use, the stator is aligned along the path of travel (Fig. 7, not shown) and aluminium can lids are moved therealong. By providing two or three parallel paths and by suitably energizing the poles, motion can be induced in any direction along the paths or laterally between the paths. Thus single streams may be split, or vice versa and articles either concentrated at the centre of a stream or forced to the edges.
