Abstract

1459136 Pipe couplings BARNARD FABRICATIONS (MIDLANDS) Ltd 23 Oct 1974 [21 May 1974] 22537/74 Heading F2G Tubular elements 3, 4 of different cross-sectional dimensions are joined by forming an intermediate tubular member 5, which has a cross-sectional dimension generally matching a cross-sectional dimension of the element 3, machining the member 5, while it is still separate from the elements 3, 4, to a cross-sectional dimension such as to fit closely within or over the element 4, and connecting the member 5 between the elements 3, 4. The member 5 is preferably welded to the end or end portion of the element 3, and may be made of thicker material to minimize distortion during welding. The member 5 may be made from flat material by rolling or pressing around a former, the contiguous edges then being welded together. The member 5 may be machined to fit directly within or over the end of a pipe 1, in which case a groove may be formed in its surface to receive a sealing ring for engagement with the pipe 1.
