Abstract
1458728 Apparatus for relining a tap hole COMBUSTION ENG Inc 3 July 1974 [5 July 1973] 29499/74 Heading F4B Apparatus for relining a furnace tap hole 12 is mounted on a carriage 16 on tracks 18 and has a boring tool 22 and relining equipment 24 that can be aligned in turn with the tap hole by operation of an hydraulic actuator 19. After the boring and refacing operation is completed the relining equipment is secured hydraulically by clamps 32 (Fig. 4) to the tap hole flange 36. A water cooling nozzle 41 and outer and inner sleeves 44 and 51, which are pneumatically actuated, are made to enter the tap hole. Sleeve 44 carries an umbrella device 49 at the end and relative movement between the sleeves 44 and 51, which is induced pneumatically, erects this device at the inside end of the tap hole. Sleeves 44 and 51 are then moved outwardly to seal the unbrella device against the refractory lining and are locked in this position by a brake cylinder (70), Fig. 8 (not shown). Air cylinders 76 are then actuated which force the ram 86 to the left and refractory slurry 88 is forced into the tap hole cavity 90. The relining equipment 24 includes a resilient spring biased seal member 38 which makes a seal between the tap hole outer face and cylindrical housing 42. Should the umbrella device become jammed on withdrawal after completion of the relining, it may be jettisoned by the shearing of frangible pins 100 and 102 attaching the ends of the sleeves 44 and 51.
