Abstract

1456404 Polyurethane foams M & T CHEMICALS Inc 11 Jan 1974 [31 Oct 1973] 01476/74 Heading C3R Water-impermeable polyurethane foams are prepared by mixing (1) an organic polyisocyanate with (2) a mixture comprising (a) a compound having reactive hydrogen atoms and a M.W. of at least 500, (b) water and (c) a compound of the formula YR wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group of at least 10 carbon atoms and Y is -OH or -SH. The mixture (2) may also include a blowing catalyst and a gel catalyst. Compound (a) is preferably a polyalkylene polyol. Suitable compounds (c) are lauryl alcohol, heptadecanol, cetyl alcohol, eicosanol, nonadecanol and octadecanol and the corresponding mercaptan compounds.
