Abstract
1455465 Etching composition FURUKAWA ELECTRIC CO Ltd 21 Dec 1973 25719/76 Divided out of 1455464 Heading B6J [Also in Division C7] A composition for pickling, etching, chemical milling or polishing metal contains 0À1-10 g./l. (as H<SP>+</SP>) of an acid, 0À1-300 g./l. of H 2 O 2 , 0À001-20 g./l. of one or more of the P- or S- containing compounds below as H 2 O 2 stabilizer, and optionally 0À1-5000 p.p.m. of glue, gelatine or a hydrolysate thereof. The stabilizer is of formula XR 2 SO 3 H, R 3 OSO 3 H, or is a salt thereof, wherein R 2 is C 1-18 alkylene, R 3 is C 1-12 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl and K 4 is H or R 3 . An optional stabilizer, in amount from 0À001-20 g./l., of formula R 1 O-(C 2 H 4 O) n H wherein R 1 is aliphatic of 4-20 C atoms and n is an integer of 1-20 may be added. The acid may be H 2 SO 4 , H 2 N.SO 3 H, H 3 PO 4 , HCl, CH 3 COOH, HF, HBF 4 or HSiF 6 . The metal treated may be Nb, Ti, stainless steel, Cu, Ni, Cu-Ti, brass, Ag, Fe, Zn, Al, Ag-Ni or Cu-Ni. When the H 2 O 2 : H<SP>+</SP> concentration ratio exceeds 30, the solution forms an oxide on Cu substrates, which may be removed to leave a bright surface.
