Abstract

1455274 Transformers and inductors G BACHORZ [trading as HERMANN SCHWABE] 8 Dec 1973 56988/73 Heading HIT The winding projections 9 of a shell core transformer are insulated by moulded plastics casings 10, 11 slipped over the projections and fitting between the projections and the core. As claimed, a transformer used for gas discharge lamps comprises a core of an inner and outer member, each composed of a stack of laminations, making a shell core, a winding in the form of a coil disposed on the inner member, with its axis perpendicular to the inner member, projecting from opposite ends of the shell core, the winding being insulated all round within the shell and the coil projections being within individual insulating casings disposed externally of the shell core formed as an integral structure having a first wall 12 between a coil projection 9 and the inner member and a second wall 13 masking the coil projection. As described one casing 10 may be formed with a catch 23, slotted projections 19 and channels 220. The catch 23 engages a terminal block (24, Fig. 1, not shown) and the projections 19 receive the ends of the winding wires (22, Fig. 7, not shown) and terminals (21) secured by pinching. The core, casings and terminal block are engaged by corners 15 to a mounting strip (6, Fig. 1). The first wall 12 of the casings may be thicker than the second wall 13 and may have a recess 30 to secure an insert (not shown) with an air gap.
