Pile-fabric looms; warps, weaving in periodically.-In looms for weaving plush and like fabrics with the aid of transverse wires, the wires g, g', g<2>, g<3> are arranged beneath the ground warps a, a' and the woven fabric, and the severed ends of the pile warps d, d' not to be employed for the part of the pattern being woven at any time are nipped between the wires and the breast-beam plate f. In producing the required downward pressure, the woven fabric, which comprises wefts c, c<1> and a stuffer warp b in addition to the ground and pile warps, is inclined downwards in front of the breast beam. The pile loops are cut in the known manner by knives at the ends of the wires as these are drawn out of the loops after passing the breast beam. When the pile warps are to be woven into the fabric to form pile, they are raised into the sheds and bound by the wefts.
