Abstract
1452776 Ignition systems ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 28 Nov 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 55065/73 Heading F1B An ignition system for an internal combustion engine comprises a magneto generator 10 whose armature 13, 14 co-operates with a magnetic member 11 adapted to be driven by the internal combustion engine for generating the energy required for ignition and has an armature winding 14 connectible in parallel with a primary winding 30a of an ignition coil 30 by way of a first switching element 31 of the system and a second electronic switching element 19 connected in parallel with the armature winding and switchable from a conductive to a non-conductive state at the firing instant by means of a control system, the first switching element being co-operable with the second electronic switching element to conduct pulses from the armature winding when the second electronic switching element is blocked at the firing instant. As shown the first switching element 31 is a Zener diode. Alternatively it may consist of a plurality of diodes connected in series or may be a thyristor or a transistor associated with a Zener diode. Again a variable, voltage-dependent, resistor may be used as the first switching element. The system is controlled by a magnetic pulse generator 24 but alternatively a mechanical contact breaker 34 may be connected in parallel with the base emitter path of a power transistor 23 to control the system.
